Littledean camp

Hello I'm David Savage a mature student studying at Bristol University. I am carrying out a study of the Littledean Camp.  I am trying to confirm the site landowner between 1066 and 1151; in other words who might have built this fine fortification ?  Any help or guidance would be appreciated.  At the moment I have three possibilities.

Many Thanks David
PS I cannot find any Domesday entry.

    Hi David
This is a difficult one owing to lack of documentation. Might I suggest contacting Gloucestershire Archaeology at Shire Hall in Gloucester. Their Lidar survey of the Forest may help to date I for you. My feeling is that if there is nothing in Domesday it will be hard to find out who was responsible for building it. Try reading Cyril Harts book ‘Severn & Wye in the year 1000’ and also the Victoria County History Vol V Forest of Dean. The Tidenham cartulary of AD956 might also shed some light on the early settlement. You should also contact the Gloucestershire Archives for information if you have not already done so. They have a very comprehensive online catalogue.

    Regards
